A 22-year-old suspected drug dealer was intercepted yesterday by the Metro Police Property Crimes Unit on his way from Athlone to the Southern Suburbs, where he was going to sell eight illegally-acquired Ritalin tablets.

The officers received a tip-off regarding the suspicious individual. After having stopped the suspect they found him to be in possession of eight of the schedule-six tablets that he could not provide a medical script for.

It is believed that the suspect was on his way to sell the drugs to a school pupil in the Southern Suburbs. When officers searched his mobile device for evidence, they found a number of texts on his phone with other orders for the same prescription medication.

The Metro Police Department is urging parents to be vigilant and aware of the drug, as it seems that an increasing amount of learners in Cape Town are obtaining the drug illegally.
