Major routes across the Mother City are being controlled by roadblocks to ensure residents are not travelling unnecessarily during the nationwide lockdown.

Routes including the N1 and the N7 are being blocked, with traffic police actively checking permits and licence disks of vehicles travelling along these routes.

Traffic police have upped their presence in the streets as it is expected the flow of traffic will be higher with the easing of lockdown restrictions from Level 5 to Level 4.

With more workers on the road as well, police are ensuring that they check every vehicle along the way.

According to Nari.co.za, once-off travel between provinces has been allowed from May 1 to 7. This is also being policed by traffic officials posted along main roads.
