The City recently commenced rehabilitation work on roads in Philippi, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha. These roads serve as the main routes to and from many areas in Cape Town, so regular maintenance is important.

The work includes the resurfacing, rehabilitation and road marking of Sheffield Road, Mew Way, Highlands Drive and Spine Road. Damaged and missing barrier kerbs will be replaced, and milling out the existing surfacing and base layers and constructing new bituminous treated base layers and asphalt surfacing layers all form part of the maintenance project.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, said, “Regular maintenance is pivotal to prolong the longevity of the city’s road network. I want to thank the local communities for their ongoing support and cooperation while we are doing this work to improve the road surfaces. The road markings will also improve visibility and safety. We have measures in place to help direct residents during the construction period and we urge all road users to please comply.”
Motorists are advised that the maintenance work is scheduled for weekdays between 7.30am and 5pm, and provisions have been made for morning and peak hour traffic. A stop-and-go system is in place on the affected sections of these roads.
Highland Drive is closed to traffic between Alabama Road and Eisleben Road for the duration of the maintenance project, which is scheduled to be completed by mid-March 2023, pending any unforeseen delays.
