A male truck driver was tragically killed on Sunday during a rock-throwing incident on the N1 near De Doorns early on Sunday morning. It is alleged that a rock was thrown through his windscreen while he was driving.
The driver, who reportedly worked for truck service Time Link, died at approximately 5am. “Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time. A life taken too soon. A life taken at its peak,” the SA Long-Distance Truckers said in an official statement.

A video of the incident, showing the moment that the rock apparently hits the steering wheel, has been circulating on social media. Another person can also be seen resting on a bunk bed within the truck, but it is unclear what happened to them.
The truck was allegedly looted after it crashed.
