A six-year-old boy named Uriel Ockhuis was brutally mauled to death by two Rottweilers in Hillview, Cape Town. The two dogs had allegedly escaped from their owner’s property through an open gate.

As reported by the Cape Times, the young boy was playing in the street with friends when the dogs attacked. His family members are reportedly reeling with shock; they witnessed the violent attack, and their efforts to save the boy proved to be futile.

A neighbour, Rachel Waterloo, told the Cape Times that Uriel was screaming for help while the dogs tore at him, and that they would not let him go. It is alleged that the dogs bit Uriel 72 times.

South African Police Services (SAPS) arrived at the scene at approximately 6.45pm, and an inquest docket has since been registered.

“The victim was taken to a hospital by neighbours and was declared dead on arrival. An inquest docket has been registered at Muizenberg SAPS,” spokesperson FC Van Wyk said.

Uriel was due to begin Grade 1 in 2019.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the investigating officer Detective Milicent Teichardt on 082 411 2455 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
