A safety alert was sent out by hiker and nature-lover’s organisation Parkscape on Monday, August 24 following reports of a mugging that took place near Kleinplaas dam in Simon’s Town.

A man was running with his two dogs along the far end of the dam when he was attacked by three men. One was armed with a knife, according to Parkscape. The incident has since been reported but his backpack along with all his possessions were stolen.

The victim’s wife shared her account of the incident on Simon’s Town Safety & Security Watch Facebook page.

“My husband, while running with our two dogs, got mugged near Kleinplaasdam early this morning. Happened at the far end of the dam wall, shortly after he turned left to run up the sandy path. Three guys lying low in the shrubs, two BM throwing stones and a slightly crazed CM with a knife, they took his backpack with all his belongings and left towards Ocean View, ” she wrote.

A resident shared on the Parkscape group that arrests had been made following the incident.

Residents are again being reminded to never hike or run alone, especially in the early hours of the morning or later in the evening.
