National retailer Absolute Pets recently made four donations, worth R100 000 each, to four animal welfare organisations to ‘acknowledge and support the four organisations’ welfare work in their communities’, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The welfare organisations, namely Cape Town-based Dead Animals Walking and Mdzananda, Gauteng-based AACL Johannesburg and New Hope Animal Rescue, were informed this week of their donation.

‘Animals and their welfare is at the core of everything we do as a business. With 175 stores nationwide, Absolute Pets has a strong connection with local animal welfare communities across the country and supporting the work they do is a major focus for us,’ said Genevieve Adams, Absolute Pets Marketing Manager.
With many South Africans that struggling financially, it has become a bigger challenge to put food on the table for the furry friends that are without a home.
New Hope Dog Rescue, a Johannesburg organisation, received almost 700kg of food valued at R156 075 and said they have been ‘thrown a lifeline’.
‘We know there are a lot of choices when it comes to donating, and we are so grateful that Absolute Pets chose to donate to us at A New Hope Dog Rescue,’ said Kevin Stirling, New Hope’s Manager.
‘We have a lot of work to do in re-homing our dogs, and this generous donation allows us to continue to house, feed, rehabilitate and stimulate the nearly 80 dogs in our care,’ Stirling added.
‘The generous donation of pet food from Absolute Pets is a game-changer for us, allowing us to provide vital nourishment to hundreds of animals under our care. This support not only addresses their immediate nutritional needs but also significantly enhances their overall well-being,’ said Carren Nickloes, Animal Anti-Cruelty League marketing manager
‘We are profoundly grateful to Absolute Pets for their ongoing partnership and unwavering support. Their contributions make a tangible difference in the lives of animals, enabling us to focus on their protection, health and wellbeing,’ Nickloes added.
While Absolute Pets has donated over R1 million in food and products to date, this week’s dog-food donation has been considered the ‘biggest once-off drop ever done’.
