As of today [May 6], the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 7808.

The confirmed cases are broken down by province below:

Eastern Cape: 849
Free State: 130
Gauteng: 1720
KwaZulu-Natal: 1189
Limpopo: 40
Mpumalanga: 57
North West: 37
Northern Cape: 26
Western Cape: 3760
Total: 7808

In the last 24 hours, 11 315 tests have been conducted bringing the total number of tests to date up to 279,379.

Sadly, 5 more coronavirus related deaths were reported in South Africa with two from the Western Cape, two from KwaZulu Natal, and one from Limpopo. This brings the total number of deaths in the country to 153.

The Department of Health expressed their condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and thanked the health care professionals who treated these patients.

Recovery numbers are also increasing. The country now has 3153 recoveries.
