In an exciting development for the South African tourism sector, the country welcomed over 7.6 million international tourists from January to September 2025, marking an impressive increase of 1 108 222 visitors compared to the same period last year, reports Cape {town} Etc.
This surge in arrivals is a clear signal that South Africa’s tourism industry has not only recovered post-pandemic but is also a significant contributor to the nation’s economic growth, as asserted by Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille.
‘Tourism is proving itself a catalyst of economic growth and development. The industry is creating jobs, stimulating investment, and revitalising local economies,’ Minister de Lille stated, highlighting the multifaceted benefits that tourism brings to South Africa.
The month of September alone witnessed a remarkable 846 367 visitors, representing a significant 26.9% increase over September 2024.
These figures resonate with a growing global confidence in South Africa as a destination of choice, showcasing the effectiveness of the joint initiatives between the government and the private sector through the Tourism Growth Partnership Plan.
This collaborative approach has prioritised coordinated destination marketing, an effort that continues to yield fruitful results.
De Lille assured, ‘South Africa is ready to welcome the world this festive season with open arms, warm smiles, and world-class experiences.’
