Update: 15 October – Despite the autopsy results revealing Tong’s cause of death, her family has launched an investigation, believing foul play may have been involved in her death. Their independent inquiry continues as they seek more information and justice for Tong.
Tong’s disappearance first raised alarm when she did not show up for work on Monday, 7 October, prompting her friends and family to take to social media for answers.
A South African teacher from Johannesburg, who was previously reported missing, was found dead in Phnom Penh in Cambodia, after suffering a heart attack, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Angelique Tong (26) had been teaching at the IQ International School in Siem Reap and according to police reports, Tong suffered a heart attack, according to IOL.

The Khmer Times reported that Tong was found dead at her boyfriend’s apartment in Phnom Penh Thmey in the Sen Sok district, with the Phnom Penh municipal police spokesperson, Colonel Sam Vichhika, stating that her body was found on 30 September.
Vichhika said Tong had visited her British boyfriend Jack, who she had been dating for a week.
Tong was last seen after going on a dinner date at Harry’s Bistro on Phnom Penh Riverside and later went to the Hometown Hangout bar on Street 454.
The couple later went swimming in the pool at the Phnom Penh apartment complex on 29 September, when Tong felt unwell.
Tong’s boyfriend then took her up to his room to lie down, only to find her dead a short while later. He immediately alerted police officials.
Vichhika said that the autopsy report revealed that Tong’s cause of death was from a heart attack and drug use, but that police did not suspect ‘Jack’ of being involved in Tong’s death.
Tong’s friends and family took to social media after she did not turn up for work on Monday, 7 October.
