Two suspects have been detained and arrested for the possession of drugs and dangerous weapons within Table Mountain National Park (TMNP).

According to SANParks, rangers from the southern section planned and executed a successful operation near the Kleinplaas Dam area over the past few days in response to the crime incidents experienced in the last two weeks.

“Rangers were placed on standby for rapid response which resulted in this success. This operation would also not have been possible without SAPS Simons Town who responded as soon as they were called,” said SANParks.

“Both suspects match the description given by the victims from the last three incidents.”

These arrests come soon after various complaints over the rise in crime within TMNP in recent months.  Reports of muggings and violent physical attacks have become more frequent, according to outdoor community group Take Back our Mountains (TBOM).
