Just over a month after the shocking video of a Sans Souci Girls High teacher slapping her student went viral on social media, the same teacher has been told that she is allowed to return to her classroom.

The case regarding teacher Clarissa Venter (34) and her 16-year-old pupil, who were involved in an altercation, has been postponed until April 18 but the school has decided to stand by the educator and allow her to return to teaching.

“The disciplinary process has now concluded and the SGB has ratified its decision that the teacher receive a fine, final warning and anger management sessions. She will now return to work at the start of the 2nd term on the 2nd April,” said Jessica Shelver, spokesperson to Education MEC, Debbie Schafer in a statement.

The judgement may anger many South Africans who feel the violence demonstrated by the teacher was unacceptable.

Until Venter returns to her post both parties involved in the case have been suspended from school with the teenager involved reportedly planning to leave the school for good.
