The SAPS confiscated drugs worth R280 000 in the Garden Route District yesterday morning outside George, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects, according to a recently issued SAPS media statement.
On Thursday at about 11:00, George police members conducted a vehicle check point on the N9 near Herold in conjunction with traffic, when they pulled over a Toyota Yaris with two occupants.

Upon searching the vehicle, members found a parcel concealed under the passenger seat that contained stashed 1 896 Mandrax tablets inside.
Police subsequently confiscated the mandrax tablets and arrested the two suspects on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Both suspects, aged 31 and 39, are from the Cape Metropole and are currently in police custody. They will appear in court once charged.

In an unrelated incident, a 34-year-old male was scheduled to appear in the Ladismith Magistrates’ Court yesterday, following his arrest on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Ladismith Crime Prevention Unit members were deployed on the R62 when they stopped a ‘suspicious vehicle’, and searched his vehicle. Members of the unit soon found 2 007 mandrax tablets as well as 200gram tik concealed in two 5-litre wine boxes.
Officers confiscated the illegal drugs and arrested the man.
These arrests and confiscations currently form part of ongoing efforts to rid communities of drugs which remain ‘a major contributor to serious and violent crime in this region’.
