Police in Cape Town is continuing their quest to confiscate illegal firearms in the City after two suspects over the weekend for being in the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Elsies River police members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in Epping Forest on Sunday, 27 March.
Swartbooi said, upon arrival in Chickwell Street, officers spotted the suspect who matched the description and gave chase.
“The suspect fled into premises with police in pursuit. A 19-year-old suspect was apprehended and the police members confiscated a 9mm pistol hidden behind a couch,” Swartbooi said.
Swartbooi went on to say that the suspect was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Maitland Flying Squad arrested a 30-year-old man who was in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition during a stop and search operation in Kraaifontein on Sunday.
Once charged, both suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in Goodwood and Blue Downs.
