Children under attack in three shocking Cape Town cases have raised urgent concerns after incidents in Delft, Valhalla Park and Capricorn came to light this week, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Residents first reacted with shock in Delft after the discovery of a foetus on an open field in the Tsunami informal settlement. The Daily Voice reported that the body of the newborn girl was found in a plastic bag, with the afterbirth and umbilical cord still attached.
A group of friends, who made the discovery, told the publication that they saw dogs fiddling around with the packet.
According to SAPS Media Liaison Officer, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, ‘Delft police registered an inquest for investigation after a foetus was discovered on an open field in Sering Way… on Tuesday afternoon, 7 April 2026, at about 1pm.’
Police added that ‘The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.’
The friends added that babies were constantly being dumped in the area.
In Valhalla Park, Bishop Lavis police ‘responded to a complaint of a shooting on Thursday morning, 9 April 2026, at about 9:20am, in Eleanor Street.’ Officers found ‘a six-year-old girl who sustained a gunshot wound to her head.’
According to Bishop Lavis SAPS report, ‘The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment,’ after she ‘was caught in the crossfire when rival gangs started shooting.’ Detectives are ‘investigating an attempted murder case’ and confirmed that ‘the suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.’
In a third case, Muizenberg Community Policing Forum reported the arrest of a man accused of raping a three-year-old girl in the Capricorn policing precinct after the incident was reported on 9 April 2026.
The Muizenberg Station Commander noted that ‘the suspect has since appeared in court and was remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.’
Sergent Twiggs noted that the accused is an 18-year-old male.
The organisation added that it ‘strongly condemns crimes against women and children and urges the immediate reporting of any sexual crimes involving children’.
The Muizenberg Community Policing Forum and SAPS remains steadfast in its commitment to combating gang-related violence and drug dealing in the area and urges the public to submit anonymous tips via Crime Stop (08600 10111) or the MySAPS app.
