In a recent incident, the Southfork area of Strand found itself at the centre of a scam involving two individuals masquerading as building contractors, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Thanks to the swift actions of alert security officers from BayGuard Group Security, the community was spared further victimisation during an incident that unfolded early on Monday morning.
On Wentworth Street, residents reported an unusual presence of two suspects who were allegedly engaging in deceitful practices aimed at defrauding locals.
The duo allegedly approached unsuspecting homeowners with fabricated quotations for building services. After securing deposits, they would disappear without a trace, leaving residents not only out of pocket but deeply shaken by the breach of trust.
Fortunately, the alertness of BayGuard security personnel, working in conjunction with the Strand South African Police Service (SAPS), led to a rapid response.
‘As officers arrived on the scene, they apprehended one of the suspects, while the other successfully evaded capture amid the chaos.’
‘Local residents, displaying commendable community spirit, rallied together to detain the captured individual until police could arrive to take him into custody,’ BayGuard security said.
The SAPS Strand has since urged victims of the scam to step forward and share their experiences. ‘Such testimonials are invaluable for the ongoing investigation and may provide crucial leads in tracking down the fugitive suspect who is still at large,’ BayGuard security stated.
BayGuard Group Security also issued an urgent advisory to all residents. ‘We encourage everyone to be cautious and to verify any contractor or service provider they intend to work with,’ the organisation cautioned.
‘No one should have to fall victim to such deceptive practices.’ Residents are urged to check credentials thoroughly and verify identities before making any payments to contractors.
