The sinkhole, which resulted from a collapsed water line, has made the area unsafe for public use. In response, the City has implemented safety measures, including fencing and signage, to restrict access to the affected areas.
Cape Town Community Services and Health NNC Patricia Van der Ross noted that the Sea Point pool, a year-round favourite among locals, is undergoing a thorough inspection to assess the damage.
‘The sinkhole’s formation required us to excavate the entire water line to evaluate the extent of the repairs needed,’ Van der Ross explained.

‘We regret any inconvenience this may cause and are committed to completing the repairs as quickly as possible.’
Sea Point ward councillor Nicola Jowell added that repair work began on Friday and could extend until early November.
‘We are working to shorten this timeline and appreciate everyone’s patience,’ Jowell said.
In the interim, residents are encouraged to use the Long Street indoor swimming pool. Van der Ross assured that updates on the Sea Point pool’s progress will be provided by the Recreation and Parks Department.
‘Ensuring visitor safety is our top priority, and this maintenance is crucial for the facility’s upkeep,’ she concluded.
