In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of distress throughout the community, a nine-day-old baby was reportedly kidnapped from a shopping centre in Bellville on Saturday, 28 June 2025.
The case, confirmed by authorities, has ignited a swift response from law enforcement, with an urgent investigation now underway to locate the missing infant.
Reports indicate that the baby’s mother was at the shopping centre with her newborn and another companion when she began to feel unwell. Seeking relief, she temporarily left her baby in the care of the accompanying individual while visiting the restroom.
However, upon her return, she discovered that both her baby and the individual had vanished without a trace, sparking fears of a calculated abduction.
According to Smile FM, Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, revealed details of the ongoing investigation, stating, ‘The Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is investigating a case of kidnapping.’
With no arrests made thus far, the authorities are working diligently to uncover leads that could assist in the safe recovery of the newborn.
The baby’s last seen description includes being wrapped in a blue blanket, a detail that officers are hoping will assist members of the public in identifying anyone matching this description or noticing anything unusual in the area.
Authorities have urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to assist in the urgent search for the missing infant.
