The search for missing 21-year-old Norwegian student, Marie Ostbo, has been called off.

Ostbo was last seen on April 18, at Myoli Beach in Sedgefield on the Garden Route, approximately 100 metres away from the backpacker’s lodge where she and a group of fellow international students were staying.

Police later discovered her cellphone, cap and shoes on the beach. CCTV footage showed Ostbo leaving a restaurant where she was having supper. She then walked towards the beach and that is the last anyone has seen of her.

A helicopter, police and dive search found no sign of her.

The police’s Malcolm Poje said the search was called off after no trace of her was found, following weeks of extensive searches. No foul play has been detected and leads police were following up on came up empty.
