Another cyclist has died during the Cape Town Cycle Tour hosted today in the Mother City. The race has been bittersweet for all who participated, while some are celebrating victories, other families are mourning the loss of their loved ones.

A 40-year-old male rider passed away during the race in a pile-up accident involving 20 other cyclists at Wynberg Hill, on the M3 this morning.

In the second incident, a man died after suffering a heart attack near Smitswinkel Bay at around 10am today.

In a statement, the Cycle Tour Media Office said, “One of the cyclists, a 40-year-old male, received immediate medical attention at the scene but, tragically, his injuries proved fatal.”

A briefing is expected to take place later today to address both incidents.
