Police have launched a manhunt for the assailants responsible for stabbing a security guard during an attack at the Sassa offices in Athlone, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The 47-year-old security guard, who was on duty at the time, responded to a noise and was suddenly attacked by unidentified suspects.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed the incident in a statement.
‘Athlone police registered a criminal case following an incident where a security guard was found stabbed at a business premises on the corner of Birdwood and Old Klipfontein Road, Athlone Friday morning (2024-11-15) at 04:40.’
‘Preliminary investigations indicates, that the 47-year-old security guard on duty, reacted to a noise and was surprised by unknown suspects who then stabbed him.’
‘The victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment.’
‘Nothing has been taken from the business premises.’

Athlone Ward Councillor Rashid Adams said in a statement to the Daily Voice that social grant services could not be rendered on Friday.
Adams said the incident caused major disruptions, with all clients turned away as the area was declared a crime scene.
He added that he inquired with Sassa about resuming services but has yet to receive a response.
