The court heard the devastating details of the fates of his victims—Natalie Jonkers, Maria Isaacs, and Chantelle Matthyssen—whom Williams abducted, raped, and murdered. Their bodies were later discovered buried in shallow graves.
In a chilling tactic, Williams deceived the families of these women by sending messages from their phones, leading them to believe their loved ones were still alive. He even misled their mothers, pretending that their daughters were safe in various locations, all the while knowing they were already dead.
Williams also kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and her two young children, subjecting her to repeated sexual assault and violating a protection order she had taken against him. Additionally, he terrorized the families of his victims by damaging and setting fire to their homes.
Despite initially pleading not guilty, Williams later directed the police to where he had buried his victims. He claimed it was purely coincidental that all three women had been last seen in his company. Prosecutor Maria Marshall described him as a remorseless and calculating predator.
During sentencing, Judge Rosheni Alie condemned Williams as an extreme danger to society, emphasising the need for protection from individuals like him. She noted that his trial had also exposed the harsh realities of poverty and unemployment, particularly in rural areas, which had driven his victims to desperate measures in search of work.
Williams was convicted on 19 charges, including six counts of kidnapping, five counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, three murders, housebreaking with intent to commit arson, arson, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and failing to comply with a protection order.
The Western Cape’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Nicolette Bell, commended the work of the authorities in bringing Williams to justice. She highlighted the long and meticulous efforts required to secure his conviction and sentencing, adding that such cases bring a measure of justice to the victims and their families while helping to rid the streets of dangerous criminals.
