Captain FC van Wyk, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), confirmed that once the alarm was raised, SAPS collaborated with the Department of Social Development (DSD) to address the situation.
‘A child abuse case has been registered for investigation at Mitchells Plain SAPS. This case has now been transferred to the Mitchells Plain Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS),’ van Wyk stated as quoted on Daily Voice.
As part of the response effort, personnel from the Department of Social Development intervened, resulting in the removal of four children, aged between seven months and 11 years, as reported on on Daily Voice.
These children have been placed in the care of safety parents while investigations continue into the incident.
At this stage, no arrests have been made, leaving the community anxious for answers and actions to ensure the safety of vulnerable children.
Advocacy groups are pressing for more robust protective measures and public awareness initiatives to prevent child exploitation and abuse from occurring unchecked.
