Two women were tragically shot and killed, and a 12-year-old boy was injured, outside Portlands Primary School in Mitchells Plain on Thursday afternoon, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The tragic event unfolded around 3pm on Wespoort Drive, where gunfire shattered the routine of what should have been an ordinary school day.
According to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg, the victims aged 26 and 30 were approached by a relative who opened fire, resulting in a horrifying scene of violence.
‘The younger woman was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel, while her companion succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at a local hospital,‘ Twigg said.
A 12-year-old boy, who was also injured during the incident, was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The community has rallied around the young boy, offering support and prayers for his swift recovery.
Authorities believe that the motive behind this senseless act of violence is linked to domestic issues, although further investigations are underway to clarify the circumstances leading to the shooting.
In a swift response, Mitchell’s Plain police apprehended a 32-year-old male suspect in connection with the murders.
He is expected to appear before the Mitchell’s Magistrates’ Court once formal charges have been laid against him.
