Connor McGregor, the notorious MMA is usually associated with his UFC stardom. However, in recent times, news about McGregor is more akin to what we in South Africa, and Cape Town particularly, associate with taxis – violent driving and road traffic violations.
McGregor was arrested on Tuesday this week whilst on the way to a gym in Dublin Ireland. He was charged with alleged dangerous driving, or ‘road traffic violations’ as McGregor spokesperson Karen Kessler expressed as per CNN.
He passed the drug and alcohol test that was taken at the station according to Kessler. His release, however, pends an appearance before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date according to Sgt. Margaret Flanagan who did not release McGregor’s name in her correspondence with ESPN.
McGregor also took to Twitter to repost videos that showed him driving before being pulled over.
While we can jokingly compare McGregor to a heated local taxi driver, the champion does actually have a track record of road-related run-ins and violent acts outside the ring. These include the 2018 incident when he reportedly threw a dolly through a bus window, 2019’s infamous news where he ‘attacked’ a man in a Dublin pub, and last year’s incident where McGregor faced charges pressed by an Italian DJ who claimed he’d suffered injuries from the UFC fighter.
