The perpetrator had been granted parole after spending 14 months in prison, on charges of theft.
Sias refused to further share his side of the matter, only commenting that he ‘had been through hell’ since being arrested.
While working on the Vaderlandsche Rietvlei farm in 2019, Sias was accused of the murder of Cremer, after she had been reported to be missing.
He was taken to court, on charges of strangling Meghan to death, robbing her and stealing her Toyota Auris.
Advocate Bash Sibda defended the accused, as Sias claimed to have found Meghan’s car abandoned near the farm.
Upon finding the car, he used it to galavant with his friends.
However, Sias did admit to dumping the body of Cremer, which he found in the boot of the car.
Sias was not found guilty of murder, as it was believed that the State failed to prove the murder case.
During the trial, the wife of the farm owner, Linda Mohr, presented WhatsApp messages to attest to Cremer’s copious drug abuse.
Mohr further testified that three ‘Malay’ men came to the farm as Meghan practiced her show jumping, with the intention to intimidate her.
Ultimately, Sias was convicted for two counts of theft and defeating the ends of justice, for dumping her body.
His initial sentence was for eight years, which was eventually suspended for four years.
Candice van Reenen, the Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, confirmed his release on parole as of 31 July 2024.
Sias was initially sentenced in May 2023 and Van Reenen claims that he has since undergone correctional programmes as part of his rehabilitation path.
Conditions of his parole include visits from the Community Corrections officials, the prohibition of drug and alcohol use, no engagement in criminal activity and lastly, he may not leave the magisterial district without permission.
The DailyVoice reports that the State filed an appeal against the acquittal late last year and the matter is yet to be argued before the court.
