Two suspects were arrested on Saturday night after allegedly robbing tourists of their belongings on Signal Hill in Cape Town, Cape {town} Etc reports.
During targeted operations, Table Mountain National Park rangers successfully foiled pickpocketing attempts at Signal Hill on Saturday evening.
The South African National Park’s (SANParks) Rangers and Sea, Air and Mountain (SEAM) team, working with the City of Cape Town’s law enforcement unit, arrested two suspects with stolen goods and returned them back to tourists.
According to a media release, another group of suspects abandoned their efforts due to the presence of law enforcement authorities.
SANParks continues to implement its festive season safety plan and urges all visitors to follow any advisories issued by park management.
In November, SANParks announced the Table Mountain National Park Volunteer Safety Services (VSS) in partnership with civil society organisations to enhance crime response.
The initiative aims to integrate civil society’s efforts into the park’s safety strategy.
Additionally, 25 recruits were vetted and added to the SEAM team (Sea, Mountain, Air) to improve security at the park, with R1.94 million allocated for their training.
SANparks advised visitors to avoid hiking alone in the early mornings and evenings, suggesting hiking in larger groups.
