The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services responded to a fire on the mountain slopes of Silverboom Kloof Road in Somerset West at just after 1pm this afternoon.

“The fire is currently burning in the Silverboom Nature Reserve,” says City spokesperson Edward Bosch.

Six fire engines, three water tankers and 50 firefighters are currently battling the blaze. Two City choppers have also been dispatched to assist with water-bombing the fire.

“Fire crews are still assessing the extent of the fire and whether structures are affected,” Bosch says. “The cause is undetermined at this stage.”
