The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has taken decisive action in its ongoing battle against corruption by obtaining a preservation order to freeze a residential property associated with the late actor Presley Chweneyagae.
This order, granted by Judge M Victor on 18 December 2025, involves Chweneyagae’s spouse, Charlaine Christinah Chweneyagae, and various co-respondents implicated in a high-profile corruption case surrounding the National Lotteries Commission (NLC).
In a move reflective of its commitment to restoring the state’s financial integrity, the preservation order targets a home located in Hesteapark, Pretoria.
‘Charlaine Chweneyagae, acting both in her personal capacity and as the executrix of her late husband’s estate, is named alongside Alfred Muzwakhe Sigudla, the Southern African Youth Movement NPO, Domestic Baboon (Pty) Ltd, and various other entities.
‘The order effectively halts any sale, transfer, lease, or disposal of the property while awaiting the outcome of civil proceedings initiated by the SIU, which are to be filed within 60 court days,’ said SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.
Investigators have alleged that approximately R889,000 was unlawfully diverted from a substantial R15 million grant from the NLC, originally intended to support youth arts programmes.
‘This funding, approved for the Southern African Youth Movement NPO, was controversially directed through Domestic Baboon (Pty) Ltd a company wholly owned by the late Chweneyagae ultimately leading to the purchase of the residence,’ Kganyago stated.
The SIU, through Proclamation R32 of 2020, aims to recover funds lost to unlawful activities. This latest preservation order marks a crucial step in the SIU’s ongoing efforts to recover illicitly obtained financial benefits from individuals connected to NLC grant funding, aiming to restore State financial losses.
