What appears to be the remains of a human body washed up onto Sunset Beach in Milnerton on Thursday morning. Images of the remains have been circulating on social media, showing what appears to be a human skeleton with the remains of feet still attached.
Speaking to News24, Western Cape police have confirmed that police officers indeed responded to a call at Sunset Beach, at approximately 11.20am on Thursday.
“On their arrival at the scene, the police found human remains, and an inquest was opened and is still under investigation,” Captain FC van Wyk said on Friday.
Van Wyk also confirmed that both a DNA test and post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death, as well as the identity of the remains.
