The State of the Nation Address (SONA) is one of the most important addresses for South Africa. This event is when President Cyril Ramaphosa informs the country of the plans National Government has in place for dealing with the most pressing issues.

For drivers, however, SONA causes headaches as there are usually three days of extreme traffic congestion in the Cape Town CBD – this includes two days prior for the rehearsal SONAs, and the day of SONA itself.

This year, SONA will take place on Thursday, February 13, and the City of Cape Town is advising motorists to familiarise themselves with the road closures and plan their routes accordingly.

Road closures will be put in place from 5pm today [Tuesday, February 11].
