The Minstry of Health reported that the number of coronavirus cases have increased by 31 since the previous update. This means the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in South Africa is 1 686, as of today [April 6, 2020].

The total number of coronavirus tests conducted in the country thus far is 58 098, showing an additional 1 225 tests being carried out since yesterday.

The provincial breakdown is as follows:

Gauteng: 713

Western Cape: 462

KwaZulu-Natal: 257

Free State: 89

Eastern Cape: 32

Limpopo: 19

Mpumalanga: 18

North West: 11

Northern Cape: 8

Unallocated: 77

The Minister of Health also reported another coronavirus related death in South Africa. The deceased is a 57-year-old male from the Western Cape. He was admitted yesterday, April 5 and has passed on since. According to a statement, the patient had “co-morbidities that included diabetes and ischaemic heart disease.”

“We convey our condolences to the family of the deceased. We must also not forget to appreciate the health workers that treated the deceased patient,” they said.
