South Africa’s number of COVID-19 cases are approaching the one-million mark. In the past 24 hours (as of December 26), 11 550 new cases have been tallied, and this brings the country’s total to 994 911 cases since March.

Currently, the Western Cape accounts for the second-highest number of active coronavirus cases, and 245 new deaths have been reported.

According to Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mhize, the Eastern Cape has the highest number of reported deaths with 118.

The country’s total death tally stands at 26 521 since March.
