South African consumers who rely on Mitchum deodorant for its long-lasting freshness are being urged to check their shelves as the company has announced a recall of specific batches of its 48-hour 100 ml roll-ons, reports Cape {town} Etc.
This decision comes in response to skin irritation complaints reported by customers in South Africa, the UK, and Ireland.
In a candid statement shared via Facebook, Mitchum acknowledged that several users had experienced discomfort after using select packages of the deodorant: ‘Some of you have told us that you have experienced skin irritation after using select batches of Mitchum 48-hour 100 ml Roll-On, sold here in South Africa. No other product lines are affected,’
The company expressed regret, saying: ‘We appreciate you bringing your experience to our attention. We are truly sorry to those who were impacted and for the time it took to complete our investigation,’
The root of the issue lies in a modification to the manufacturing process of a raw material, which inadvertently altered how the product interacts with the skin.
Mitchum clarified, ‘While the formula itself hasn’t changed, a change in the manufacturing process of one of our raw materials altered how the product interacts with the skin of some consumers,’
They reassured consumers that it had not met their standards or those expected by the loyal Mitchum community, prompting a return to the original manufacturing process.
Mitchum emphasized that the problem is confined to a small number of batches and provided guidance to easily identify the affected products.
Customers should look for batch numbers displayed on the bottom of the packaging, which are crucial for determining the safety of their deodorants.
To ensure the safety and satisfaction of their consumers, Mitchum is working closely with retail partners to remove the implicated products from store shelves.
The company is keen to address any health concerns its users may have: ‘Your well-being means everything to us and we want to make this right,’ they said.
Those who have faced issues are encouraged to reach out to Mitchum’s Customer Care team in South Africa via the toll-free number 0800 128 464 or through their website at www.mitchum.co.za/contact-us.
