The American concept, Slide the City is splashing into Cape Town for a summer adventure like never before.

This fun event has taken place in Canada, Australia, Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, and is now coming to South Africa for the first time.

About the slide and the pool
It will take you up to a minute to whoosh down the three-lane, 300m-long contraption after which you will land in a 26m-long shallow splash pool. There are hundreds of mattresses under the slide so it will be a comfortable ride. Between 1,000 and 1,400 people can slide every hour.

The slide was manufactured in America, but the water circulation system was custom built in SA.

How does is work?
Choose either a single or triple slider ticket, which will allow you to slide a set number of times within a two-hour time slot. Alternatively, the Super Slider card allows you to slide as many times as you wish throughout the day.

Slide the City will provide each ticket buyer with a round inflatable tube to slide on, but you are welcome to bring your own of any shape or size if you prefer.

You need to be at least 1.2m tall to slide, and you’ll need to sign an indemnity form.

The location
The Cape Town location is in Constitution Street, on the corner of De Villiers Avenue, and was chosen because it has the perfect angle for a great, fast slide – with the least impact on they city’s traffic.

Slide the City uses non-potable water (it’s not suitable for drinking), and utmost care is taken regarding water conservation.

There will be ambulances available at the event in case of emergency, and there will be secure, affordable parking available just a short stroll away at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

This is one summer event that you don’t want to miss!
