A search is underway for two armed assailants who robbed a Spur Steak Ranch located in Vangate Mall on Monday morning.
At roughly 9.30am two men entered the restaurant and threatened the staff with guns, according to Western Cape police spokesperson Siyabulela Malo.
“A case of business robbery has been opened for investigation after an incident that occurred at a fast food outlet yesterday at a shopping mall in Athlone at about 09:30. According to reports two unknown men entered the fast food outlet and they threatened the personnel with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of cash and they fled the scene on foot,” said Malo.
Shots were fired by the robbers inside the restaurant but no injuries were reported. Police detectives are following up on all possible leads to bring the perpetrators in but no arrests have been made.
This is the second time this exact restaurant has been hit. Last year August two men entered the restaurant in much the same way, threatened staff and made off with money from the till.
Attempts were made to contact Spur but comment was not received at the time of publication.
