The City of Cape Town’s Coastal Management Branch is set to close the popular St James Walkway in order to add railings between Muizenberg and St James beaches.
The announcement was made via its social media platforms on Friday, 3 June. According to the City, The installation of the new raising will help improve the safety of those who utilise this route, especially during wave swell events.
The upgrade will reportedly take place in two phases and will be conducted between 6 June – 23 June.
Residents and beach users need to take note of the following dates and locations:
- Muizenberg to Bailey’s – 6 June to 12 June 2022
- Bailey’s to St James – 13 June to 23 June 2022
Users are urged to use alternative locations along the coast while construction is taking place. This will help minimise any disruptions in order to ensure the upgrade is completed on time.
