There’s no doubt that dogs are a smart bunch of animals. I’m sure you’ve seen dogs do some incredibly smart things, but have you ever known a dog to seek out medical attention from their local vet?
Well, the veterinary staff at Cape of Goodhope SPCA were left speechless after “Rio,” a black-haired male dog, strolled onto the premises unaccompanied and in need of help.
The precious pup had sustained bite wounds to his neck and decided to seek treatment from SPCA staff, waltzing in just as they were about to close for the weekend.
He was greeted by Inspector Alexia Linsell and the Chief Executive Officer, Moyo Ndukwana who approached him with a tin of yummy treats and successfully secured him on a leash.
Thankfully, Rio arrived just in time. He was whisked away to receive immediate treatment for his bite wounds and has made a full recovery. Unfortunately, no one has come forward to claim him – a frustrating situation for the staff at the SPCA who see hundreds of animals come in without identification, a microchip and no voice to tell their story.
Rio has passed his clinical and behaviour assessments and will be joining the adoptions ward as he waits to find his fur-ever home.
