Locals will welcome the weekend in the dark as Eskom has announced Stage 2 rotational load shedding today and is scheduled to take place from 8am – 11pm.

The national electricity provider explains that the electricity cuts are due to a “shortage of capacity” on the power grid.

Locals are advised to treat all electrical points as live during load shedding.

In an official statement, Eskom explained that 2000MW will rotationally load shed nationally. “Load shedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.”

Residents and businesses are advised to use electricity sparingly during this period.

“Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electrical appliances to assist in reducing demand.”

Locals can find the load shedding schedule for today here or contact the Eskom customer centre on 0860 037 566
