An investigation has been launched into the cause of a stampede at an event held at the Portlands Indoor Sports Centre in Mitchells Plain over the weekend that left at least two people injured.

According to HeartFM News, the venue, which can accommodate 200 people, was overcrowded with more than 1,000 people packed inside.
Law enforcement authorities have attributed the stampede to overcrowding, and the facility’s management committee has claimed that some individuals decided to gatecrash the event.
Chairperson Eddie Marshall says this can’t be allowed to happen again.
“We need to decide what we’re going to do, because I cannot allow this type of thing to happen and tarnish the image of the facility. If it means that we have to stop having karaoke’s and other activities, we will do so and rather not have it,” said Marshall.
