Key testimony has emerged in the trial of Racquel ‘Kelly’ Smith, who stands accused of kidnapping her daughter, then 6-year-old Joshlin, in 2024.
A State witness has alleged that Smith admitted to selling the child to a sangoma, as reported by EWN.
The claim came from Lourentia ‘Renz’ Lombaard, who testified in the Western Cape High Court before Judge Nathan Erasmus on Friday. She stated that she saw Smith meeting a woman resembling a sangoma and later overheard her telling her boyfriend, co-accused Jacquin ‘Boeta’ Appollis, that she had received R20 000 from a sangoma.
Lombaard further testified that Smith attempted to buy her silence by offering R1 000, while also offering R1 200 to co-accused Steveno van Rhyn, who was present at the time. Initially facing charges herself, Lombaard has since turned State witness in pursuit of indemnity from prosecution under Section 204 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
She remains under witness protection.
