The Khayelitsha SAPS registered an armed robbery case following an incident in Bonga Drive Site B, according to Anelisiwe Manyana, police spokesperson.
‘According to reports two Toyota Quantum’s were transporting medical students from Stellenbosch to a hospital in Khayelitsha and when they were driving at Bonga Drive, six unknown males approached the vehicles and pointed them with firearms and took their cellular telephones and their wallets,’ said Manyana, in written correspondence with Cape {town} Etc.
‘No shots were fired and no one was injured,’ Manyana added.
A student, who wanted to remain anonymous, described the event in peak traffic as ‘terrifying’, describing the attackers as young men between the ages of 18 and 20, according to News24.
‘Two of the armed men approached the first taxi while the other two targeted the second vehicle, forcing the driver to stop and avoid a shooting,’ said the student.
‘They started banging on the windows with their guns, presumably to break them, but our driver unlocked the vehicle […] One gunman, along with other unarmed men, entered the shuttle, demanding our phones and wallets. If anyone was too slow, they were hit across the face,’ the student added.
An investigation is ongoing and no arrests made been so far.
