Former Stellenbosch University (SU) student and now infamous ‘urination perpetrator’ Theuns du Toit (19) has applied at Afrikaans university, Akademia.
His application was reportedly confirmed by the institution to IOL.
du Toit was expelled from SU after footage of him urinating on a first-year black student’s belongings went viral.
The urination victim, Babalo Ndwayana, took action after the incident (spurred by his father, Mkuseli Kaduka).
According to Ndwayana, when the recording stopped, Du Toit allegedly told him: “It’s a white boy thing” which Ndwayana interpreted as “this is what white boys do to black boys”.

Further investigations revealed a photograph of Theuns’s older brother, Pierre, flying South Africa’s old flag high, which raised questions of racist roots in the family. The flag represented our country during the apartheid regime.
Three years ago, the Equality Court in SA said that the flag could not be displayed in private and public spaces but could be displayed for artistic, academic or journalistic expression in the public interest.
The ordeal sparked outrage across the country, ripping fresh scabs off racist discourse.
Protests erupted on campus, and disciplinary investigations were implemented.
Theuns du Toit was filmed making an apology, during which he only addressed other students – not the victim directly. His brief address ended off with, “sorry guys”. He was further criticised for showing no genuine remorse for his actions.
du Toit was expelled from SU after a lengthy disciplinary hearing.
“The University takes a zero-tolerance approach to racism, discrimination, prejudice and conduct which assails the dignity of another person,” said Stellenbosch Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deresh Ramjugernath.
His reapplication to study has opinions divided. Does he deserve a second chance or should this lesson be lifelong?
