Tomorrow, DHL Stadium will host a thrilling United Rugby Championship encounter between the DHL Stormers and Munster, and the City of Cape Town has advised spectators and residents on game day logistics.
The DHL Stormers play their first home game of the 2024/25 season following a three-game European tour.
Gates for the match open at 4pm for the 6pm kick-off.
With about 30 000 people expected for the event, the City of Cape Town is offering a free MyCiTi bus shuttle to match ticket holders.
‘As a result of parking restrictions in Green Point, Sea Point and Mouille Point for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, there will be limited to no parking in the precinct and surrounds,’ said JP Smith, mayoral committee member for Safety and Security.
‘Therefore, we encourage rugby fans to please make use of the free MyCiTi shuttle from the Cape Town Civic Centre, Thibault Square and the CTICC. Park in the CBD, use the Fan Walk or get on a free bus to the stadium to avoid being stuck in traffic congestion.’
‘We would also like to discourage people from parking illegally in the residential areas in their pursuit of parking close to the stadium. Illegally parked vehicles will be fined and/or towed away. We look forward to providing a boisterous homecoming to the Stormers and giving all fans a memorable experience.’
Starting at 3:30pm, the MyCiTi shuttle service will transport spectators to the stadium from the Cape Town Civic Centre and the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
Buses will leave from these locations often or when full. The last bus after the game will depart from Stadium Station at 10pm.
The City will open its secure parking area at the Civic Centre for rugby spectators on Saturday, with spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 3pm.
The parking areas are accessible from Hertzog Boulevard and Civic Road. Parking is free.
Paid parking is available at the CTICC for visitors using the bus from the conference centre.
