The City has advised of an issue with the quality of the water in Strandfontein. Residents are urged not to drink water from the taps until further notice.

According to a Facebook post by the City of Cape Town, they are yet to determine how this happened. An investigation is in process and various departments are working to re-establish the quality of the drinking water in the suburb.

“The City of Cape Town is currently dealing with a water quality issue that is affecting Strandfontein,” they said.

“In the interim, the Water and Waste reticulation maintenance crew is hard at work to flush the water supply main via the local fire hydrants in the area and simultaneously the Water, Pollution Control and Health Inspectors are sampling and monitoring the water quality for improvement before it can be deemed safe for consumers to drink,” they added.

Meanwhile, water tankers have been sent to the area as a means of providing access to potable water to the residents until the problem is rectified.

The City has assured that they will inform residents once the water is drinkable again.
