The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) confirmed that the suspect in an ongoing murder investigation of an Eastern Cape police officer has been found dead in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
Sergeant Pumlani Dastile, attached to the Eastern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Unit, was gunned down in August during a business robbery.
According to EWN, the Hawks said that a 25-year-old man was killed in a suspected shooting incident in Khayelitsha on Wednesday.
A provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela mentioned that circumstances surrounding the man’s death are being investigated as he was the main suspect involved in Sergeant Dastile’s murder.
Mgolodela went on to say that a 24-year-old man who is also believed to be one of the accomplices was tracked and traced to a hospital in Cape Town after he was wounded during an alleged shoot-out on September 10, IOL reports.
Meanwhile, police in Cape Town have launched a full investigation after three bodies were discovered in a canal in Sarepta, Kuils River on Thursday, September 16.
Police spokesperson, Novela Potelwa said that several spent cartridges were discovered in the vicinity after police divers retrieved the bodies from the water.
“Police have instituted the 72-hour Activation Plan for the mobilisation of resources in search of the suspect/s and determining the motive for the murders,” Potelwa said.
