Four suspects were arrested in Mbekweni in Paarl after being found in possession of tobacco products worth more than a million rand. The suspects were also found with a significant amount of drugs.

Officers seized 2 290 packets of cigarettes and tobacco products, alongside the drugs and cash from the abandoned premises.

According to SABC, the suspects were arrested during a search and seizure operation in the area. They have not yet been charged but are expected to appear in court once this has been completed.

“Our intelligence led us to six premises which resulted in the arrest of four suspects for being in possession of a variety of drugs comprising dagga, tik and mandrax tablets. Cash to the tune of R5244, believed to be the proceeds of crime was also confiscated,” Police spokesperson, Andre Traut told SABC.

“The operation was concluded with the seizure in terms of the Disaster Management Act of 2290 packets of cigarettes, and tobacco products with an estimated value of R1.1 million, as well as R82580-00 which were found abandoned at an address.”
