We know that of all the gems our city has to offer, Table Mountain is the crowned jewel. Now, we have the opportunity to deem one of her assets as a jewel of the world.
Table Mountain Cableway is currently in a race of legends – the race to become the World’s Leading Cable Car Ride.
This is the first time in the cable car’s operational history that the exhilarating attraction is competing for the title.
“This has been the positive news we have been waiting for,” says Wahida Parker, Managing Director of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC).
Here are the others gunning for the throne:
Disney Skyliner Cable car (USA)
Bondinho Pão de Açùcar in Brazil,
Cable Car at Sun World Ba Na Hill (Vietnam)
Wings of Tatev (Armenia), to name a few.
The strategy to secure the win involves us – Capetonians and South Africans. In order for the Cableway to win, it would need to receive more votes than any of the nominees. Additionally, those in the Tourism and Travel industries are being appealed to in particular, as their votes count twice as much.
We’ve done it before.
10 years ago, locals responded to the call to get Table Mountain to become one of the New7Wonders of Nature. South Africans rallied together as we do, and our efforts secured the title.
Let’s make history and do it again for our Cableway.
Voting has opened and the closing is at midnight on the 25th October.
You can vote by clicking on the ‘Cast your vote’ link. Simply register once you’ve been taken to the World Travel Awards website, and make history happen.
