Fire crews from Table Mountain National Park and the City of Cape Town responded quickly after two vegetation fires broke out in the park’s southern section, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The Red Hill fire was contained within 90 minutes, while a separate blaze in Dido Valley remains active as aerial and ground teams work to suppress it.
SANParks confirmed that ground crews and City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services tackled Red Hill and that one helicopter was dispatched to assist at Dido Valley, supported by Volunteer Wildfire Services and additional tankers. “Thank you to all firefighting teams for their swift response and continued efforts,” SANParks said.
Park officials asked residents and visitors to avoid the affected areas to allow emergency teams to operate safely and to reduce risk to the public.
The park’s fire management unit reminded the public that high fire season runs from November to May and urged extra caution during dry, windy conditions.
Crews remain on scene and will patrol for flare-ups as conditions calm. We will update this report as authorities release further information and safety advice.
