Cape Town CBD tyre slashing has led to the arrest of a 32-year-old taxi driver following a December incident that left a City patrol vehicle immobile during a busy enforcement operation in the city centre, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The arrest follows a coordinated investigation into an incident on 23 December 2025 at the intersection of Lower Plein and Strand streets, a known pressure point for taxi and traffic enforcement in the CBD.

A Traffic Services officer had parked a marked patrol vehicle at the intersection while conducting duties nearby. On returning, the officer found the tyres deliberately slashed.
According to a post shared by Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith on Facebook, investigators moved quickly to identify a suspect through the Safety and Security Information Management Operations Team, working alongside Traffic Services and Law Enforcement.
Smith wrote, ‘Slash and dash suspect runs out of tread,’ confirming that the suspect was traced and stopped weeks later.
At approximately 10:30 on the morning of the arrest, officers pulled the suspect over in Strand Street and took him into custody at Cape Town Central SAPS on a charge of malicious damage to property. The details were confirmed by Kevin Jacobs from Cape Town Traffic Service.
City officials say the arrest sends a clear message about protecting frontline officers and public assets during enforcement operations. Smith added that coordinated intelligence remains central to maintaining order in high-traffic areas of the CBD.
